Lions Fall to Brookdale
Branchburg, NJ - The RVCC Women's Volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Brookdale Jersey Blues on Wednesday night. After taking the first set 25-17 and almost winning the second set 27-25, the Lions couldn't get on the right track to mount a comeback. The team is now 6-8 on the year.
The Lions were led by Emma Kovacs' 9 kills, she was followed up by Ra-Yanah Brown-Smith who had 8 on the night. Nyah Hermann was right behind with 7 kills while Amaya Wilson finished the night with 4 kills of her own. The Lions -.032 hitting percentage was a over a full .100 less than the visiting Jersey Blues and it continued to hurt the team all night. Defensively the team was solid as four players racked up double digit digs. Alaina Munday (19), Avalyn Stayskal (18), Claire Holmes and Ana Martinez Sanz each had 10 to round out a strong defensive performance by the Lions. Munday also led the team with 25 assists.
The Lions will travel to Scranton, PA to take on the Monroe Mustangs and the host Falcons of Lackawanna College on Saturday afternoon. The Lions' last trip to Lackawanna College was in the Spring of 2021 when the team was competing in the NJCAA Division II District Finals during the Covid-19 shortened season. This trip will be the final time the Lions play the Falcons, as Lackawanna College will be competing at the four-year level starting next season as a member of the PSAC.
