North Branch, NJ - The RVCC volleyball team completed the week with a perfect 5-0 record. The Lions started off the week on Monday with a 3 set victory on the road against Bergen County. Two days later the team ousted the Blue Colts of Middlesex College in four sets. In one of the teams' most anticipated games of the season, the Lions hosted the Roadrunners from RCSJ-Gloucester on Friday night. Earlier in the season the team traveled down to Sewell and fell to the host Roadrunners in four sets, marking the Lions' first GSAC loss on the season. The team was able to earn a season split as they beat the Roadrunners in three straight sets on Friday night. The Lions came out of the gate strong and built a double digit lead behind the offensive prowess of Olivia Sims and Kaili Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick led the team in kills and digs finishing with 13 and 20 respectively. Sims was right on pace as she finished with 12 kills on the night. Bri Rojas added 13 digs and Outside Hitter, Jaiden English, was huge defensively with 16 digs to go along with her 7 kills. The offense, as has been the case all year long, was orchestrated wonderfully by Izabela Bar. Bar finished with 32 assists, marking her sixth game with over 30 assists. Fitzpatrick also set a record on the night as she ecliped the 200 kill mark.
The following day the Lions hosted both Atlantic Cape at noon, and Brookdale at 2:00 P.M. The first game was more of the same for the Lions as Sims and Fitzpatrick led the team with 8 and 11 kills respectively. Rojas again reached double figures with 10 digs, while Fitzpatrick and English led the way with 11 each. Bar had 29 assists as the Lions won in three sets against the visiting Bucanners for the season sweep.
Less than two hours later, the Lions hosted the Brookdale Jersey Blues. The Lions' serving was a huge determinant in the teams' 3-0 win. Sophomore, Xaviera Wilson led the charge with 7 service aces while Bar and Fitzpatrick added 6 and 5 aces of their own.
The Lions return to action this week as they host Ocean County College at 7 P.M. on the 20th. This is the Lions' last Region XIX and GSAC game of the fall 2021 season. The team currently sits at 19-5 on the year.
