Women's Volleyball 2022 Season Preview
Branchburg, NJ (August 23) - The RVCC Women's Volleyball Team and head coach Phil Herro have announced the program's 2022 Fall Schedule which features a total of 33 games, 16 home contests and 18 matchups against Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) opponents.
In 2021, the Lions set a program record as they finished 24-6 overall (17-1 Region XIX) earning them their second consecutive Region XIX Championship. The Lions were also selected to compete in the NJCAA National Tournament where they finished ninth in the country. After such an incredible season, the Lions were tenth overall in the NJCAA Division III Preseason Poll.
When asked about the 2022 season Coach Herro stated:
"We're obviously excited about the strong core of returners we have, but we're also very excited about a really big freshman class. With the experience and talent of the team from last season coupled with the desire and skill set of the new group we should have a lot of fun this year. One of the coolest things about this year and this group is that for the first time in history, at RVCC, we get to coach some of these kids for their third year in a row. It's really fun and interesting to see how much more they've grown with this third year of participation. Not only is it great for us as a team, but it's awesome for our underclassmen to learn from players with that much experience.
Our expectations are pretty simple, get better every single day. If we are able to focus on the short term, try to remain a little bit more process driven instead of results driven, I think our kids will be proud at the end of the season."
Second year player and 2021 First Team All – GSAC Olivia Sims was very enthusiastic and eager to get back out there and repeat the same magic the team had last season. Sims said:
"I'm really looking forward to the home games and the love our fans always show. Some goals we have set as a team are to establish the same dominance, we did last season and make it back to nationals in Minnesota once again. Some goals I have for myself are to be a consistent powerhouse and really get people's attention this year."
This past weekend, the team opened their season on the road in New York where they split, making them an even 2-2 to start their 2022 Campaign. The Lions will be hosting a Quad-Match this upcoming Saturday (8/27) against Rockland CC and Queensborough CC at home.
