Volleyball Finishes Region XIX Play with GSAC Championship
North Branch, NJ - The RVCC women's volleyball team hosted the Vikings from Ocean County College on Wednesday night in their last Region XIX and GSAC regular season contest. With the 3-0 win the Lions clinched the Garden State Athletic Conference title for the 2021 season.
Each set was close, but the Lions continued to find a way to pull away at the end. Offensively the team was led once again by Kaili Fitzpatrick and Olivia Sims. Fitzpatrick finished with 20 kills and Sims notched 11. Izabela Bar controlled the game with 33 assists and had the lone service ace for the Lions. Fitzpatrick tallied her team leading 10th double double on the year, and fourth in a row, contributing 19 digs. Libero Bri Rojas finished with 14 digs and Jaiden English was excellent with 15. The win gave the Lions their 20th win on the season as they now sit at 20-5.
The Region XIX playoffs begin on October 25th and conclude on October 30th. The Lions have positioned themselves with a strong chance to earn the #1 overall seed as they finished Region XIX play with a 17-1 record. The Lions won the school's first ever volleyball Garden State Athletic Conference Championship in 2017. Since then they have won 3 more titles including last night's, with championships in 2018 and 2019 as well. The team finished the 2020 season (in the spring of 2021) with a 7-0 Garden State Athletic Conference record, but no championships were awarded that year.
