Lions beat Harrisburg and Lackawanna
Harrisburg, PA - The RVCC Women's Volleyball team traveled to Harrisburg Area Community College on Saturday, October 2nd to play a tri-match with the host HACC Hawks and the Falcons from Lackawanna. The first game of the day was a Region XIX battle between the Hawks and the Lions. The Lions got off to a very sluggish start, but managed to pull within 2 in the first set. However, they were unable to overcome the rough start and lost the first set 18-25. Losing that first set clearly motivated the team as they went on to win the next two sets while playing with a lot of energy. The team brought that same energy into the fourth set where they started with a commanding 12-3 lead, but it wouldn't last. The Lions eventually found themselves down 19-20 before they rattled off three straight points in a row. The final set was a close one, but the Lions found a way to prevail 25-23. Freshmen Kaili Fitzpatrick and Olivia Sims led the way with 18 and 11 kills respectively. The Lions' ability to get points with service aces played a big role in their success. Fitzpatrick had a team high 4, Karina Arias and Reema Azouzi each had 3, and Izabela Bar added 1. Bar had a season high 34 assists in the game.
Only half an hour after finishing the first game the Lions had to turn around and take on the Falcons from Lackawanna. RVCC was able to get out to an early start and never looked back. Xaviera Wilson led the way for the Lions with 6 service aces and 3 kills.
The Lions return to action on Monday with a GSAC and Region XIX showdown with RCSJ-Gloucester at 6 PM.
