May's Hot Third Quarter Powers Lions Past Falcons
Scranton, PA - In their final matchup ever against Lackawanna College it looked as though the Falcons were going to get the best of the Lions. After years of highly contested contests the Region XIX opponent from Scranton, Pennsylvania is transitioning to a four-year college in the Fall of 2026 as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. RVCC had just beaten the Falcons the week prior by over 20 points, but found themselves down 9-0 to start the game. After a strong defensive stance at the end of the first quarter, and the entire second, the Lions took just a 7 point lead into the half. Enter Elizabeth May.
The sophomore sniper from Auckland, New Zealand went scorched earth on the Falcons from downtown in the second half making 8 of her 11 attempted threes. She set a career high with 33 points to go along with a team high 7 assists. May also contributed on the glass, gobbling up 6 boards as well. Behind May's hot shooting the Lions outscored the Falcons 38-17 in the 3rd quarter to take a 28 point lead into the fourth and final period.
Although May was stealing the show, she invited some of her teammates to her party downtown! Maria Equizabal Ruales cotinued to showcase her ability to shoot it from deep as she connected on 4 threes to finish with 16 total points. Fello freshman Julia Solé Pons made a career high 3 three pointers en route to her career high 19 points. The freshman point guard also dished out 5 dimes on the night. Never one to miss a party, Telma Comba decided it was about time to make her first career three pointer as well. Comba finished with 7 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Jayla McNeil made it two straight games in which she connected on a tri-fecta to help the Lions finish 17-39 overall from beyond the arc. Every Lion to enter the game got on the scoreboard as Paula Aguilera Ortega finished with a bucket and was second on the team with 7 boards.
The Lions will look for their first three game win streak of the semester as they travel to County College of Morris to take on the Titans on Saturday at 11 AM.
