Lions Suffer 3-2 Defeat at Bergen
The Lions suffered a tough 3-2 defeat against the Bulldogs of Bergen Community College. RVCC jumped out to an immediate lead in the 1st inning following an RBI double for Peter McTernan(Sophomore, Union, NJ) which drove in Steven Gonzalez(Freshman, Union City, NJ) for the first run of the game and a 1-0 Lions lead. The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the 3rd inning when Bergen would bring across 2 runs against the Lions starting pitcher Justin Young(Sophomore, Branchburg, NJ) for a 2-1 bulldogs lead. Their lead would be short lived as the Lions answered in the top of the 4th with another RBI double from Peter McTernan driving home Steven Gonzalez once again and knoting the game up at 2-2. Bergen answered once again with the deciding run in the bottom of the 6th pushing them ahead 3-2 as they held on for a victory by the same score. Justin Young, who started the game for the Lions, pitched a solid 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5.
RVCC will next take to the field this Saturday, March 16th, as they travel to Schnecksville, PA to take on Lehigh Carbon Community College in a Region 19 doubleheader.
