Women's Soccer Defeats Cumberland County College
The Golden Lions of RVCC traveled two and a half hours on Saturday to compete against the Dukes of Cumberland County College. In their inaugural campaign last season the Lions lost to the Dukes 6-0 and were ready for the rematch this season with many new faces on the squad. RVCC controlled the game from kick off surprising CCC with their aggressive play. At the 37 minute mark in the first half, #18 Yessica Vivar was fouled just outside the 18. RVCC's go to set piece taker #17 Alexa Zienuik stepped up and placed the ball in the upper corner of the goal giving the Lady Lions their 1-0 lead. The Dukes continued to fight back but the goalie for the Lions, # 1 Savanna Duh protected the net for the full 90 minutes. Duh was assisted by the tireless efforts of the defensive and mid field lines. With 10 minutes to go in the game RVCC lost control of the game for a bit, but were able to hold on to their lead and secure the win. "All of the girls contributed to the win today," said Head Coach James Watson. "It was truly a total team effort."
The Lady Lions record is now 4-6. They are preparing of their next game when the travel to Montgomery County College on 10/12/11.
