Women's Soccer Defeats Camden Community College 10-1
The Lady Lions had an exciting 10-1 win this past Saturday against the Dukes of Camden Community College. The Lady Lions of RVCC, in only their second season played a great game all around. In RVCC's inaugural campaign in 2010 they lost to CCC 8-0 and are excited about their turnaround in just one year. RVCC started the game aggressive from kick off but missed an early opportunity to score on an attempt from #6 Jennifer Salazar. However, it didn't take long for the Lady Lions to take the lead when at the 40 minute mark #15 Kaiesha Brotherson scored the first goal of the game. Shortly thereafter RVCC scored their second goal at the 35 minute mark by #2 Amy Shivers. The early lead only enhanced RVCC's confidence and they continued to control the game for the first half. At the 27 minute mark, Jennifer Salazar took full advantage making sure not to miss another opportunity and scored the third goal of the game which was followed up four minutes later with a second goal by Amy Shivers giving the Lady Lions a 4-0 lead. RVCC did not give up and scored their fifth goal of the half off of a great header by #4 Veronica Torres. CCC fought back with strong pressure for 10 minutes and were awarded their first goal to cut the lead to 4. Minutes later RVCC took back control scoring their sixth and final goal of the half again by Kaiesha Brotherson.
RVCC carried their consistency from the first half into the second and came out strong. At the 33 minute mark Brotherson struck again adding her third goal of the game and the 7th for the Lady Lions at the 33 minute mark. Yessica Vivar chipped in another goal 10 minutes later and Salazar followed up with her second goal of the game at the 15 minute mark. The tenth and final goal of the game was scored by #18 Yessica Vivar with just 6 minutes left in the game. The Lions finished the game with strong ball movement and Coach Watson was pleased with the all-around effort, confidence and control of his squad. "We lost big to CCC last season and today was a perfect example of our improvement over the past year. RVCC Women's Soccer is here to compete and we hope to carry the strong and aggressive play we showed today through the remainder of our season," Coach Watson said.
