Lions Win a Thriller on Pink Day
Golden Lions win a thriller, 84-83, over the Broncos of Bronx Community College in the 2nd Annual RVCC Pink Game! The Lions who were looking to return to their winning ways following a tough 89-75 loss against Essex County College in their previous game came out strong against the NJCAA Region XV school from New York. The Golden Lions had three players score in double figures with Danny Scaramella, Emmanuel Brown and Marvin Crawford registering 13, 23 and 30 points each, respectively. Marvin Crawford, who once again led the Lions in scoring, shot an impressive 50% from the field overall while knocking down 11 out of 12 free throw attempts at a 92% clip. RVCC, who saw there 7-point half time lead completely diminish, were able to hold off the Broncos thanks in large part to timely 3-point baskets from Danny Scaramella and clutch free throw shooting down the strecth by Emmanuel Brown; who gave the Lions the 1-point lead with only seconds remaining on the clock. After a key defensive stop, the Lions turned the ball over on their final offensive possession giving the Broncos once last chance to win the game with 5 seconds remaining on the clock. RVCC knuckled down and was able to prevent Bronx from getting a clean look on their final possession and prevailed with a hard fought 83-82 victory.
Prior to the game, RVCC was able to honor Greg Cavanaugh the lone sophomore on the 2012-13 Men's Basketball. Greg was a two-year member of the basketball team who also maintained honor's recognition in the classrom while majoring in Civil Engineering. It is without question that Greg will go on to great things in the future and the RVCC Athletic Department would like to wish him the very best!
