Late Rally Falls Short
The Golden Lions came into play against the Wolverines of Essex County College looking to extend their winning streak to 2 games following a 101-93 victory over Manor College on Feb. 7th. RVCC knew this would be no easy task as the Wolverines entered play #8 in the nation and were looking to finish out the regular season with an undefeated 16-0 mark in region play. The Lions, led by the play of Emmanuel Brown(Freshman, Philadelphi, PA) and Marvin Crawford(Freshman, Edison, NJ), were up for the challenge and came out the gate strong against Essex trailing by only 3, 33-30, with 8 minutes remaining in the first half. For the remainder of the half the Wolverines showed why they were ranked #8 in the country and finished off the first-half on a 22-4 run fueled by their full-court press and took a 55-34 lead into intermission.
However, their was no quit in the Golden Lions as they started the second half on a 12-2 run cutting the deficit down to 11, 57-46, due in large part to the offensive execution of Marvin Crawford who started the half hitting three consecutive jumpers in route to an 18-point performance on 8-13 shooting from the field and a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. The Lions continued to fight back cutting the deficit to down to as little as 8, 81-73, with 2 minutes to play but couldn't get any closer as they fell by a score of 89-75. Emmanuel Brown once again led all RVCC scorers with 25 points on 50% shooting from the field(6-12) and converting on 11-15 from the charity stripe.
With the loss, RVCC falls to (8-14 overall, 5-10 region) and will next take the court this Friday, February 15th, against Bronx Community College with the tip slated for 7pm. Also don't forget this Friday, February 15th will be the 2nd annual RVCC Pink Basketball Game. There will be a half-time performance by the Filipino Peace Club as well as raffles and RVCC Pink shirts for sale with all proceeds going to Relay For Life!
