Lions Split With Bucks
Following an impressive 4-3 victory over the County College of Morris, which saw Peter Mayer(Sophomore, Alexandria, NJ) pitch a complete game surrendering only 4 hits and 3 runs, none of which were earned, while striking out 7 batters; the Golden Lions looked to extend their winning streak as they took on Bucks County Community College in a non-region double header.
The Lions sent Justin Young(Sophomore, Branchburg, NJ) to the mound in search of his victory during his sophomore campaign. Bucks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead following the top half of the 1st inning but the lead would be short lived for the school from Pennsylvania. After not scoring in the bottom of the first, RVCC scored 18 unanswered runs over the next 3 innings and took a commanding 18-1 lead into the 5th inning. The Golden Lions offense was a complete team effort as every started regiestered at least 1 RBI. Despite allowing a few runs in the top of the 5th, including a couple unearned runs, Justin Young was able to close the door on Bucks in route to a complete game and an 18-4 victory for RVCC. Justin finished the day going 5 innings while giving up 4 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6 improving his season record to 1-3.
With a modest 2-game winning streak in hand, the Golden Lions came out flat as a team in the 2nd game against Bucks; falling by a score of 13-4. Trey Conroy(Freshman, Washington, NJ) took to the mound for RVCC in search of his victory in his collegiate career. However, Bucks would not be denied a victory as they scored a run in every inning but 1 in route to a 13-4 victory. Trey's final lined read 6 innings, 10 runs(7 earned) on 17 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3. Defensively, the Lions were not sharp either as the team committed 5 errors in the field.
With the split, RVCC dropped to 3-13 overall and will look to get back to their winning ways when they take on Bergen Community College this Thursday, Aprill 11th at 3pm from RVCC field.
